Data Center Knowledge, an online resource for the data center industry, recently conducted its annual key interest survey. The vast majority of respondents, who represent enterprise class data center operators, cited data center design as their key area of interest.
Following data center design, survey participants ranked power and cooling second, green IT third and data center infrastructure management fourth. These results coincide with industry trends and customer requirements.
For example, a well designed data center infrastructure helps meet business demands for scalability and reliability. Design also impacts a service provider’s ability to deliver solutions economically.
Since power represents the most costly management component of a data center, it makes sense operators want to learn more. Both power and cooling are prime areas to realize cost savings through operating efficiencies. Therefore, data center providers naturally want to focus on using the best technologies and procedures to power and cool their facilities.
Experienced and reputable data center providers will pay close attention to what’s important to enterprise customers. As businesses adopt green initiatives in greater numbers, data center providers must keep pace with “green” operations and solutions.
And finally the fastest growing interest area respondents identified was data center infrastructure management. This new technology trend integrates facility and IT management for more strategic operations.
Keeping up with industry trends, especially as they relate to enterprise requirements and preferences, remains an important differentiating factor among data center providers. Data centers are not static facilities. They must continually evolve to meet changing business demands and efficiency goals.
