Data Center Knowledge, an online resource for the data center industry, recently released its 2011/2012 Data Center Market Insights report. This report evaluates responses from large data center operators to identify trends, challenges and opportunities.
Some noteworthy findings involve cloud computing and data center expansions. For example, the report finds data center service providers believe cloud computing is a viable technology. Although cloud solutions have been over-hyped for the past couple of years, many providers have concrete strategies in place to support the growth in cloud technologies.
In fact, the report cites more than half of respondents use cloud computing in their data centers. In addition, findings show a 15 percent growth in cloud computing usage by data center operators from August 2010 through August 2011. This type of increase indicates a level of trust with this technology. Finally, the number of providers choosing not to deploy cloud computing in their data centers has fallen 13 percentage points during the past year.
The next significant finding involves data center expansion plans. Responses indicate over 51 percent of respondents plan to build new data centers or expand existing facilities. This large percentage clearly shows a growth trend for data center services.
Data center providers who keep focused on industry trends and customer requirements will be well positioned for the growth ahead.
