National Data Hosting Provider, CoreLink Data Centers, to Host Free Webinar On the Upcoming HITECH Final Rules Impact on HIPAA Security Compliance

Live Demonstration to Leverage Applied Math Modeling's CoolSim Software to Forecast Outcome of Data Center's Cold and Hot Aisle Containment, Use of VFDs to Balance Demand and Supply Airflow

MT. PROSPECT, Ill., Sept 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicago data center provider, CoreLink Data Centers, LLC  (www.corelink.com) will take part on Thursday, Sept. 29th at 2 p.m. EST in a one-hour webinar during which the company will leverage Applied Math Modeling Inc.’s CoolSim software and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling to analyze cooling efficiencies at its Phoenix data center facility.

Loren Zweig, VP of Engineering for CoreLink, and Paul Bemis, President of Applied Math Modeling, will use CoolSim to baseline one of the Phoenix data center’s private suites and predict the outcome of modifications using cold and hot aisle containment, plus Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to balance demand and supply airflow. CoolSim will also calculate a return on investment based on energy savings achieved through containment and VFD use.

Cold and hot aisle containment and VFDs are but a few elements of a 10-point green data center initiative that CoreLink is implementing at its five data centers in Phoenix, Chicago, Las Vegas and Seattle. The company’s use of Energy Star-rated, and otherwise highly efficient cooling, electrical, lighting and power distribution systems, is designed to improve operating efficiencies, lower operating costs and minimize carbon footprints, contributing to the nation’s lowered energy consumption solution.

CoolSim’s prediction of cold and hot aisle containment and VFD-controlled AC motor speeds will provide CoreLink clients and other attendees a real-time glimpse at how these elements reduce IT infrastructure-related power costs.

“As a CFD-based modeling software package, CoolSim performs ‘what if’ studies to illustrate the effect of data center modifications,” Zweig said. “For example, studies have shown that improved airflow management can improve data center energy efficiency by as much as 30 percent.

“CoolSim will quantify how CoreLink can optimize air management and enhance efficient performance.  CoreLink plans to complete CFD analyses and implement airflow management enhancements at all of our data centers,” Zweig said.

CoolSim incorporates the same CFD methods that Fortune 100 companies use to design everything from automobiles to hypersonic aircraft. It factors in data center floor plans, thermal loads and computer room air conditioner (CRAC) units to accurately calculate air pressure, temperature and velocity throughout the data center for maximum cooling with minimum power usage.

“Increasing power costs, combined with utility rebates and state and municipality tax incentives tied to reduced carbon initiatives, intensifies the importance of a company’s choice of a data center service provider,” Zweig said. “CoreLink is committed to continually improve data center efficiencies.”

Attendees can register for the free webinar, “Analyzing Energy Savings Techniques in a Colocation Data Center,” by using this link.  System requirements include Windows® 7, Vista, XP or 2003 Server for PC-based attendees; Mac OS® X 10.5 or newer for Macintosh®-based attendees.
